Lab Director

Supervises Home Land Labs’ daily operations and laboratory technicians including laboratory hiring and training, current and/or future accreditations, ensuring proper record keeping and test results are reported properly, equipment, and assuring compliance with all applicable regulations. Helps to ensure that the appropriate authority and resources are provided to the laboratory personnel. Participates in upper management meetings and reviews, to provide future goals, reviews of policies and procedures, and reviews of current training and skills of the laboratory staff. Performs annual performance reviews for all laboratory personnel. Reviews Home Land Labs’ daily operations and laboratory technicians’ logs, forms, and other relevant data and procedures. Performs analysis of field samples, according to the laboratory’s accredited and approved EPA method from the Standard Methods: For the Examination of Water and Wastewater reference. Provides consultation on lab results and corrective measures. Administers compliance of the laboratory, regarding the testing methods, documentation, and importance of Home Land Labs’ management system. Guarantees that all laboratory staff’s individual certifications are current to their testing (MDL and IDC). Collaborates with the Quality Manager to write, review and update the laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), to maintain compliance with approved EPA Standard Methods, regulations of the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (NPDW): 40 CFR, Parts 141-143, and compliance with the EPA Manual for the Certification of Laboratories Analyzing Drinking Water (CLADW). Maintains general cleanliness of the laboratory area, general laboratory safety policies, and other general housekeeping laboratory duties, as required. Train staff on appropriate safety measures taken while working in the lab.  Ensure staff are familiar with the safety practice detailed in the Home Land Labs’ Safety Manual. Ensure that quality control and quality assurance programs are established and updated as needed. Ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented when deficiencies are found in the quality control process. Ensure that results are properly recorded on lab reports and reports are sent to the customer or appropriate regulatory agency in a timely manner. Collaborates with team to monitor the laboratory’s quality policies are being followed to ensure data reduction, validation, reporting and verification are being performed properly. Notifies the appropriate Certifying Authority (CA) in writing, within thirty (30) days of any major changes in personnel, equipment, or laboratory location. Adheres to and supports the Quality Policy program implemented in Home Land Lab. Collaborates with Quality Manager, President, and other relevant upper management, for annual review of the Quality Policy, procedures, verifications, and any suggestions for improvements.

 

Must have superb communication skills, proficient in Microsoft applications and enjoy working outdoors yearlong. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and will successfully pass a criminal background check.  Strong organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy, is required. Paid on-the-job training is provided. A strong work ethic and willingness to learn are also required. A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science is strongly preferred or equivalent experience.

Qualifications:
-Bachelor's Degree required in Chemistry or Biochemistry
-Minimum 10 years of relevant industry and laboratory operations experience with a minimum of 2 years preferably in a Lab Director/Supervisor role
-Understanding of regulatory compliance and basic quality systems under ISO, or related standards is a must
-Audit experience with AIHA, ISO17205, NELAC
-
Proven experience leading a team
-Experience with contract writing, negotiation, RFPs and acquisitions is a plus
